After 5+ years of research, I got my 2020 Ridge Red Kodiak 700 base model.
Installing (attempting) a 3500 VRX and mount today.

May need some guidance.

Congrats on the purchase!

Yes, that red looks very nice and one of the better red ATVs Yamaha has put out.

Very nice colour! Congrats

I'm guessing here but are you trying to wire in a winch onto your Kodiak?

Here is a thread about installing one on a 2016, I would imagine that yours is quite similar. The key on power is described in post # 7

I read this post again because Im going to hook up the power to my winch tomorrow, ran out of time today.I mounted the contactor on back of my kfi winch plate, there were no holes so had to drill them out.The whole process took alot longer than I thought it would take. All the cables and trigger wires had to be shortened.I dont like a bunch of wires stuffed somewhere..

Instead of cutting or stuffing wires somewhere you can always fold them back onto themselves and then use a tie wrap to hold them in place.

Normally I would do exactly what you stated ,but with my baby I want it as good as I can make it. I dont like a bunch of wires somewhere. Its not hard to make everything nice and neat just takes time.Lots of time..

I've always thought I was indecisive.

Until you proclaimed it took you 5 years to figure out what to buy.

I don't feel so indecisive anymore haha, thanks!

Nice machine, and welcome! Did you also start researching what tires you were going to upgrade to 5 years ago? They should always be the #1 "mod" done.

Update - Took me span of two days - but installed VRX and winch mount with rocker switch by my self. Big girl...
I actually ran the rocker hot connection through the 12v on key accessory and not the primary on key itself. Will see how it goes.
I actually left it on gear while turned off (in Low) and somehow drained battery:(. Luckily, I have a backup jump starter and fine. Pictures in morning.
Next comes front plow mount.
BTW - as someone in the Instructional Design Field - WARN has the absolute worst directions I have ever encountered.

Already mentioned and agree, that will not cause a parasitic drain on your battery. Also agree that the winch wiring is the most likely cause of your drained battery since that is new unless you also added other modification.

Absolute best way is to just buy the Ignition Power Harness Part Number: #5km-86171-00-00, which is pretty cheap and assuming your Kodiak did not come with one. That harness is a direct plug 'n play harness to the 12V Acc and connects to the thin gauge + wire from, I believe, it is the winch rocker switch. That thin + wire may come from the contactor but I recall it was from the switch, it has been a while. The thick gauge + wire (red), along with the thick gauge - wire (black) go direct to the corresponding battery terminals. It is very obvious on the thicker gauge wires that go to the battery.

I typically only use Low for plowing as I never reach speeds that would go above what Low gives me. I also am pretty much in 4x4 while plowing.

What type of plow and mount did you purchase?

I also agree on Warn's installation instructions. I believe that a 5 year old could do better than they do.

I let the snow conditions dictate if I am in low or high. As long as the Kodiak isn't really laboring to push it in high that is what I plow in but if there is enough snow or if it is real wet then I'll drop it down into low...

I also have the front mount Pro Vantage plow. The only problem that I ran into was that I had to cut a notch into the mounting plate to get the bumper back on. Hopefully they have this taken care of. And the instructions with the plow mount are just as bad as they are with the winch mount.

So this has happened twice now (leaving machine in neutral or gear while turned off). On the 2nd time... I just let it sit a few minutes then it started right up without jumping.
As for wiring - I used the 12 v accessory (on key only) that base kodiaks have as the splice to Rocker switch. (Used the white wire with blue stripe)
Wonder if this is not a battery issue and more of user error (maybe I can start in gear and I'm not applying rear brake while starting?
