Suitcase, lol, U Shaped rear cargo

Not to offend anyone, but dont like look of the HUGE U shaped suitcases that utilize the rear rack, so looking for ideas to encompass tools, active tablet, clothing for easy access.

Been using a waterproof soft bag, but with the bungies to hold it tightly to rear rack, difficult to make quick stop access while riding.

Please show me some other options than than the hard case stuff. I ride fast and to the limits. My normal stuff just eats away with the vibration. HnM!!!!

All aluminum - about 10" high and 12" wide, 39" long (fits the rack perfectly on my 450). The handles have springs in them so they don't vibrate. I used a rubber mat on the bottom to stop any vibrations. Around $150 on Amazon

A problem I can see with a box shaped like that is navigating through woods. I use ammo cans on the outboard edge of my rear rack. It has happened to me where I'm trying to slip between 2 trees, if one of them is leaning in a bit, the machine will fit no problem but the tree can hit the top edge of the storage box.
The problem that no one water tight container is right for everyone.

I run a mixture of a basket on the rear rack, a canvas bag on the rear, a Koplin water tight box on the front and a couple of water proof bags that I can place things into. I've look at the larger boxes to install on the rear rack but they take up too much room and stick up too high for me.

You just need to find something that works for you.

Another issue with them, people load those large rear boxes down with so much weight (tools, fuel containers, heavy extraction gear) that it definitely upsets the balance of these ATVs, making them feel like they may flip backwards on you when climbing steeper stuff.

I try to only load light stuff in the box I have mounted to the rear, the heavier stuff goes on the front rack.

@tech97elec I've run a Tamarack Classic Front box on the rear with the opening facing towards the back, for exactly the same reasons you've brought up. I've also learned to only load light weight stuff in it. It is not water/dust proof so I put my jacket, snow gloves, etc. in a dry bag that goes inside.

To be honest, the best solution I have found is a backpack. Add a water bladder, a windbreaker, some electrolytes, a first aid kit, and a couple protein bars - and room for your preference of a couple more things. I also run a 2-Gal RotoPax gas can on the rear. I’m not riding for utility, but more for sport. It has been the easiest so far.

Thats kinda what i have, sorta, my problem i guess is the bungies that hold it from moving fwd or rearward make it difficult to access zipper. Im using a waterproof bag, strapped down.

I ride hard and fast and even w 3 bungies, damn thing rides up on my seat. Thanks

Exactly, which is why i started this thread... ideas... keep them coming. Appreciate all the input!!
Yeah, bungee doesn’t hold anything. I wear it. It’s actually pretty comfy
Kinda like this one, but damn lot of money. Maybe better to do a cheaper box, drill drain holes, then use water proof bags for tablet, etc.

Good ideas guys, yes, everyone is different in what works for them.
I have a couple Harbor Freight small cases to bolt on the rack. But it isn’t my favorite way.
So on my 2022 Kodiak I will be doing some light duty wood hauling from behind my house. I built a u-shaped rack that I bolted to the stock rear rack. I had a local muffler shop bend me up two u-shaped pieces of 1 1/2" tubing about width of the rear rack. Then using 1/8" flat stock welded to the tubes about 18" apart kind of forms a rack to haul wood. Cost about $50 in materials. Sorry no pics.
Everyone does have to find what works for them. I run that Alum box because it is not too high, and holds all my repair/rescue/first aid gear, and a cooler for lunch. With it being low and the Kodiak being narrow I don't have any issues with the width. The box is 39" wide, the machine is about 50" with my fender flares so that helps. My wife has a basket on the back of hers so if the box is not handy for what I am doing I take hers.

Very nice, thanks for sharing. Im picky, that would be enough space, for me, 6 x 36, i would want it smaller, front to back though. Ill look at Pelican and Kolpin.

Leaning towards waterproof box. I dont want to have to open one box , then another. One of my trail snacks is pop tarts (hehe) so maybe packing them in box tightly theyd stay partially intact.

Another good point is adding rear weight is not optimal for hills, black trails, like was said. Weight needs to be up front so that where im thinking of adding the waterproof case.

We just got back from RH and DA in HNM and we ride as fast as we can for 20 mins, stop, look at tablet, etc, etc, pick a route and head off again. Found that by time i took gloves off to undo bungies, get to small zipper, open bag, pull out tablet, touch, zoom, plan..... im last one to get going again, lol.

Anyway, thanks again!

I use the one from Yamaha. Its pretty low profile, 7" deep If I remember correctly on the inside, probably 9-10 inch height over all. You can store more than you think in it.
