So I got the dreadful call from the dealer yesterday and the tech said there is a recall on my machine it's the decompression spring inside the engine. I mean I figured being a brand new model in it's first year there would be some small tweaks here or there but I've only had it for 3 months...:crying:

Also if you haven't had your first scheduled service done ask your dealership to do it at the same time as the recall because it will be easier to check the valves since the engine will be apart.

You can try checking on the grizzlycentral forum for some info. I think you may have more luck there since the grizzly has the same motor and a lot more ppl frequent that website.

Hello,

Thanks for this info. I visited my dealer, and they confirmed my unit needed the new spring. I am being scheduled for repair and they ordered the part. I also had issues last winter when starting in the cold. It always took a couple of times of before starting. Ran great afterwards, no problem. Even used it drag from pretty heavy logs around. Performed well.

I will give an update this winter on the difference in starting. Hopefully no more problems. My unit is stock, no mods.

I just had my recall done at the dealer last Monday I dropped it off at lunch and he called me the next morning at 9am and said it was done. I also had them do my first scheduled maintenance when it was there. Hopefully no hard starting symptoms for me this winter.

Are you going to be doing anything on your end to influence ideal start ups? I heard this winter could be worse than last year... but then again they say things like that every year :D

You talking like a block heater on the quad like on trucks that you plug into the wall? Haha probably not just keep it full of gas and hope that tiny little ATV battery is up to the challenge of -30F. I really wish it had a back up pull start or kick starter like on a snowmobile but I bet pulling over a single cylinder 700cc would be pretty stout. The last 2 winters have been super mild its been awesome for everything except snowmobiling we will see what this winter brings when it gets here:grin2:

So I've been researching this recall a bit. I noticed the decompression spring part numbers differ from the 2016 Kodiak and 2017 's. The replacement springs are a little bigger maybe. So I was wondering......if your vin# isn't on the recall list......does that automatically mean your machine already has the beefier spring? Just seems weird that some 2016's are affected and some are not. Anyone know the scoop?

I got the call today. I had looked at the list and thought I had escaped! I'm taking it in next week. I'll probably use the visit to get a windshield and hand warmer grips.
How long should I expect it to be in the shop?

From what I've read it's a relatively quick procedure. Guess it will depend on your particular dealer and how many times they already did the swap. Keep us updated.
