I have had a Grizzly 700 since 2014 and bought a 2023 Kodiak 700 SE in December 2022, so I'm a new member of this community. I live just off a busy state highway in the Copper Country of Michigan's Upper Peninsula and will be doing quite a bit of snowplowing with this machine, and folks don't always slow down when they come onto my street. To protect myself, I decided to install LED strobe warning lights on the back of the machine.
The following parts were purchased from Amazon:
SMALLFATW Color Switchable Grille Strobe Lights Dual 6 LED 2 Color Modes 9 Flashing Modes Weatherproof, Emergency Warning Light for Cars Trucks Vehicles Pickup ATV UTV, Amber or White & Amber 2 PCS, $25.99
NILIGHT Motorcycle Handlebar Switch Plug and Play 12V ATV Handlebar Light Switch Push Button Waterproof ON Off Switches for ATV UTV Driving Lights- Fits 7/8" Handlebars (22mm), $14.93
TWIDEC- 6 Pcs 12mm Momentary Push Button Switch 1/2" Mounting Hole On Off Mini Round Waterproof-$9.99 (had to buy six but only needed one.
Wiring Diagram
I used the cigarette lighter power source for a brief time but didn't feel that the factory switches would stand up to the weather, so I bought the handlebar and momentary button switches that stated they were waterproof. That, of course, remains to be seen. Installation of the lights was simple. I used machine screws that bolted through the rack and ran the wiring under the seat and on the right side of the tank to a location near the headlight. From there, I found a red wire wired across the ignition key for power and brought my black ground wire to the battery. I used heat shrink tubing on all my connections after soldering them. I found a good spot on the handlebars for the on/off switch and located the momentary button switch on top of the headlight. The button switch controls the mode preference of the strobe action. I had difficulty with the on/off switch as it was a bit out of round, and I had to machine it on my drill press to make it fit.
Here are the lights working; only one is shown on, as this is a frame grab from a video that can't be loaded here. They are bright enough after dark when I will be most concerned.
Ready to plow snow!
