Hi All! So glad I found this forum! I've been a member on the "Wolverine Forums" for a while now as I own a 2021 X4 R-Spec, and late last summer I purchased an '05 Kodiak 450 for right around $1K. It's a little beat up but too bad and has roughly 3500 miles on it. I thought for that price point, I can't go wrong, and I know the previous owners personally and how they took care of the machine. I haven't had much time to work with the Kodiak since the purchase and actually just got it out of winter storage about a week ago. Looking forward to getting this thing turned into my own and hit the trails!
I've attached a few pics of when I first purchased it, I will post more soon as I have added and updated a few things to it already.
I do have a one question for you folks, and I'm sure you've heard this story before......
When I put it storage last fall, I forgot to turn the Fuel off.... Dumb I know😕
Anyway, I got it home, parked it in my garage and a few days later, I had a fuel leak under the machine....
Question is, because it took a couple of days for the leak to appear, would that be a stuck Float? A plugged vent? A dirty Air Filter? Maybe all of the above? I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to the Carb. but I do I know you folks are the best in the biz when it comes to this sort of thing. Any advise is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I'm on a phone so I can't see the pictures.

Do you shut the gas valve off when not running it? I had a 2000 Kodiak 400 that would leak if I didn't

Generally I do yes, it’s just that I forgot to when I put it in storage. It’s off now and will be until I fire it back up again

First welcome aboard . Wife used to have a 05 -450 and I use to have a 01-400 kodiak , very capable little machines you'll love yours . . So when you say you got it home , was this on a trailer back of a truck ? If so it may have sloshed the float in the carb and then it took a bit to run through air filter out the air filter box drain . How does it run ? Idles ok etc.
Then for the warm welcome!
It was on a trailer. It’s fires up, idles and runs fine which leads me to believe that the float is not stuck??? If it Were stuck it wouldn’t idle properly correct? I haven’t had a chance to look into it yet, however I’m off of work now till Tuesday so I’m hopeful to find some time over the long weekend to tear into it
I have 3 boys, all aged 7 and younger so I don’t get the time I used to when it comes to playing with my toys 😂, more times than not my time is spent playing sports in the yard or taking them ice fishing. Not complaining one bit because I love every minute of it, just wish I could sneak away to the garage a little more often haha

Yes if float was stuck it would not run well , float sloshed and dumped fuel in transit . And you could always put a wrench in those boys hands (y)..

Haha, I’ve tried and they end up wrecking more than helping. The oldest one is pretty good, but not quite there yet with the attention span.
I guess I’m going to start with following the fuel line and look for any cracks. I’m willing to bet it’s never been changed. If that’s not it, then I don’t know what to do. Thanks for the advice, keep ‘em coming when you can and I’ll follow up with my findings 👍🏻

Welcome aboard!
I had a dirt bike that would drip due to floats, but still run ok. It wasn’t stuck, it would get out of adjustment. When running it was ok (until it got further out…). But when not running it would slowly drip. Just enough to be annoying. Not saying that’s your problem… could be a bad O-ring or something.

Thanks JD that’s good to know! I’ll look into it 👍🏻
Well I tore into the machine last weekend, followed the fuel line, no cracks, checked into the carb with the help of a buddy, no issues there, o-rings and gaskets all looked fairly good as well, not bad enough to replace ( for now anyway) and it also has stopped leaking.
I’ve come to the conclusion that it just built up pressure while in storage and leaked through the carb…. I guess for now the plan is to just keep driving it and keeping an eye on it.
thanks everyone for the suggestions and advise👍🏻
Just about any motorcycle, ATV, or whatever that uses a gravity feed fuel system with a tank that sits up on top is going to leak.

I've owned a half dozen dirt and road bikes and they all leaked gas while they were sitting if the shutoff valve wasn't off. This includes a 89 Yamaha Big Bear and a 2000 Yamaha Kodiak 400
