Try holding the throttle open just a little, turn your key, wait ten seconds and start it. Mine fires every time this way. I agree with comments from people that they are set lean from the factory to meet emissions. I wouldn't run ethanol blended fuel either. I run a little octane boost in with the fuel because the quality of fuel anymore isn't what it used to be. The engine has 10:1 compression, which is one of the reasons it has the power it does. I've never had it pop or miss, even on extremely hot days.

I'm no mechanic so I would try a process of elimination to help narrow the problem down. What c.c.rider says makes sense so I would try that first considering these are new machines. Keep us updated and goodluck !

do you have it in park? with it in park, i turn the key on, slide the handlebar switch to run and hit the button and it cranks right up. if it's in gear, i have to hold the left hand brake to get it to crank. never any delays except had to squeeze harder on the brake sometimes.

I just purchased a brand new 2016 Kodiak. When I got home there is a long delay when starting it. It seems like about a 20 sec delay before it fires. Anyone else having this issue?
If you are cranking the starter for 20 sec to start it there is something definitely wrong with your quad. For a brand new quad like you said, take into the dealeship for warranty repairs.
First you may try some fresh gas in the tank to see if it changes things but no additives should be necessary for it to start and run right.
Good luck and let us know what was wrong.
