What I did for my winch was hook onto the wires coming out the back of my 12v plug in, winch I used a Yamaha wire harness(5KM-86171-00-00) and plug into the plug going to the 12v outlet so I didn't have to do any splicing. It was just plug and play. Please post pictures of your install as I have been thinking about adding heated hand grips to my Kodiak for winter time use.
So I ended up cutting into the winches positive since it was wired to the accessory port. That way the hand warmers only came on when the four wheeler was on. Hooking the positive anywhere else and the hand warmers would stay on 24/7. I wired the negative strait to the battery
