I've got a 2000 Kodiak 400 that has been garage kept, but been sitting for a while. I just replaced the battery to get it going again, but when I turn the key to the "on" position, there is a buzzing or humming noise coming from the front end. It will crank and run, but still buzzing/humming. I believe it is something related to the Four Wheel Drive. When i push the on-command 4x4 button, the humming changes pitch. Anyone run across this before?

There should be some relays associated with the 4wd switch that may be causing the buzzing.

I owned a 2000 Kodiak for 17 years and never did have to go looking for any relays, but then it never did give me any problems either.

You may want to trace out the wiring from the switch or the servo that is mounted on the back of the front diff that turns in the 4wd to find them.

That is the 4x4 actuating servo.

If you want to replace it you can find them on Ebay. The dealer gets a little bit expensive. Other than that at 501 Parts you can get just the motor that fits inside of it or a complete rebuilt one for $100

If you are in doubt you can send a email to Steve at 501 Parts and he'll tell you what he thinks.
