Not sure if your ignition timing is adjustable, but another thing to check if it is.
Carb could have an issue.
I'm leaning toward valve adjustment too. I'm thinking it's very tight...perhaps so tight it's not closing all the way.
A compression test, or better yet a leak down test may help identify the issue.
