Hello everyone I hope someone can help me.i have a 97 kodiak 400 4x4 rode it a few years then noticed backfiring at carb. Found that my intake boot was split. Bought a new one rode for about an hour it backfired again And split the new boot.i bought a new carb and new intake boot. Checked the crankcase breather and it wasn't clogged. Rode it for a half hour and you guessed it, it backfired and blew out the new intake boot.can someone help. Thanks

If you are getting a backfire you might want to check the valve adjustment.

I was thinking that if it does't happen all the time it could be a sticking valve

Not sure if your ignition timing is adjustable, but another thing to check if it is.

Carb could have an issue.

I'm leaning toward valve adjustment too. I'm thinking it's very tight...perhaps so tight it's not closing all the way.
A compression test, or better yet a leak down test may help identify the issue.
