I have a 1996 Yamaha kodiak 400 4x4. When I crank it up, the engine revs up real high. It seems like it is going to blow up. I have to turn it off. Can anyone help me? Also there is gas coming out of a fitting at the bottom of the carb. Thanks. Del

I'd say that if you rebuild your carb both of your problems will be solved. That is unless you have a sticking or broke throttle cable.

I think that the problem with the leaking gas is a bad gasket or O ring. On my old 400 it would drip gas unless I shut off the fuel. It did that for as long as I owned it and I never worried about it.

Some times this can be an air leak somewhere in the combustion air. I do agree with JimP a carb job should stop your leak and will likely resolve your issues. In many carburetors, if the main float needle valve feeding the main fuel bowel, is not sealing it will leak out of the carb through an overflow.
