Axle play

Maybe JimP has the answers for this. The left front axle( when you are sitting on the machine) or the right axle when you were standing in front Has some up-and-down movement where it goes into the front differential. It really has no in and out movement and neither do any other axles. Just a slight up-and-down. Everything sounds great nothing is leaking and I’m just wondering if this particular axle has more play than all the rest.

I have never looked to see if mine has any play so I had to go out and check it.

No play up, down, or in and out. But then it is hard to try to sit on it and reach down to see if there is any play in them.

Are you seeing movement where it actually enters the front diff or in the CV joint? The axle is held into the front diff by a circle ring and it takes a little bit of yanking to get it to pull out. A little bit of movement at the CV joint could be normal depending on the wear of the joint. But I don't notice any on mine.

you don’t need to sit on it to check. I was just explaining which axle it was. It’s only where it goes into front diff. Its not just flopping in the wind, but if I get a good grip on it I can get it to go up and down only. Maybe a heavy 1/16 or so.
Here is a picture of a axle.

If you see movement where the blue arrow is pointing then there is a problem

If the movement is where the red arrow is it shouldn't be a problem, just a little slop in the CV joint but I wouldn't worry about it

Guess it’s going to the dealer. It feels like it’s where the axle goes into the front diff. Dealer will probably says it’s normal. I could tell them all four tires fell off,and they would say it’s normal.

I may be normal but I don't get any play in mine.

If they do say it is normal have them show it to you on a new machine sitting in their show room.

You might want to just drop by the dealer and talk to them first before you drag it down to them.

It's normal to have 1/16 radial play ( 0.060 thou with a dial indicator) on the left hand axle going into the diff. I thought something was wrong with my Grizzly because of it and after inspecting two other bikes I realized it's normal

Thanks Vincent. I checked the new machines at the dealership this morning and they all had the same play.Maybe just a little less. 👍
