2005 kodiak 400 winch instal

The old warn winch 2500 gave up the goat . I picked up a no brand 3500 winch with no Manuel . What I would like to know is. Can I use the existing Wiring and just remove the old and replace with the new. There is nothing on the 3500lb one that relates to amps or anything. Im sure I can get it to fit with a few modification and really dont want to tackle the wiring. Any help would be appreciated.

I am sure the leads from the battery and solenoid are sufficient to carry the needed amperage to run a 3500# winch. The switch wiring simply operates the solenoid so there is nothing connected there that will cause a problem. BTW, are you sure the old winch died and not the solenoid? I can hardly believe an ATV winch would be used enough to wear out a Warn, but who knows.
Thank you for your advice . The old warn winch had a real grinding noise sounding very much like bearings .However I will take a closer look at it now. again thanks so much.
So I wired my new 3500 winch and all I get is the solenoid click/clunk. The 2500 warn winch is a toy compared too this beast 3500 . So Im thinkin is it possible to rebuild my 2500 warn. I dont need anymore winch than what this winch provides. I only spontaneously bought the 3500 cause it was cheap . I usually do some research before I buy. So is it rebuild the warn or rewire for 3500 or etc etc etc
Thanks for your time

Do you get the solenoid clunk when you push the control button in both directions? in/out ? does the new winch moves at all? If you have a voltmeter check for voltage at terminals out of the solenoid -when you push the in/out buttons you should get battery voltage with (+) and (-) reversing if everything is in working order with your wiring and solenoid.

You can do some more troubleshooting to get it going but usually the winch is a last resort to free yourself from some hard spot and the question is: do you really want to go the cheap route with this?
I really find it hard to believe two winchs have went **** up. I think you have a solenoid or wiring problem. Have you tried using a pair of pliers or something and crossing the posts on the solenoid?
Well that's what I thought ....There is no voltage at the winch end so Im just now removing everything to get at the solenoid and will likely replace it. Sometime I take the Long road around. will continue this story later.
Hey Wayne,

Moved your thread to General Discussion

Thanks.

After testing the solenoid Im sure I need a new one found this one on ebay

Test the solenoid: used voltmeter from battery side too switch side and there was voltage then clicked the switch out/in and voltage dropped to 0
Then from batt terminal side to the winch terminal no volts.

I tried crossing the terminals and get nothing
