Hi guys, new here, 1st time working on a kodiak, hope I am posting in the right place.
Recently got a kodiak 400 not running with electrical issue and trying to figure it out.
The guy I got it from said it suddenly stopped, his father was an electrician and ripped the back of the cdi out to fix it, apparently it ran again after that for a while then cdi blew again.
Got a cheap cdi of eBay ( I know they are not the best, will get oem if I get her running) plugged it in and still no neutral/gear lights and no ignition.
I do get the horn to work and the electric 4wd is working.
Crossed starter solinoid and am getting no spark. Stator resistance is good.
Was hoping for the easy fix but doesn’t look like it!
Plastics are coming off tomorrow and getting the volt meter warmed up ready for a long innings, any help would be much appreciated
Wiring diagram would be great if anyone has?
Cheers

While it isn't a 2004 here is the things to check for starting problems on a 2000.

Well, I will give you 2 proposals that are very uncommon but VERY NASTY to find if they occur.....I have had them both on my 400.
The first one if that the wedge between the crankshaft and flywheel shears of.....This can happen if you put it in gear with the variable sheaves still running and U hear a "clonk" when U put the gear in. U must measure the actual piston position though the plug hole and compare itt with the Top marking on theflywheel.

The second tip is that U shall check so the engine is properly earthend to the frame and to the battery minus pole. My engine did suddenly get isolated few years ago and that costed me 2 or 3 CDI boxes. I have installed separatley earth lugs between the battery to the frame and to the engine of sufficient size....

And pleas....tell the forum of the outcome as soon as U find the problem....than can help others in the future. Many people forget that unfortunatley....

Cheers Tirill, got caught up doing some things and haven’t got into her yet. Will definitely update once figured out. Will check flywheel first, hoping not 🤞I was leaning towards a bad earth but it’s never that easy 😊
Is a 2000 model, had a brain fart when posting! To many bikes in my head!

any more suggestions welcome 🙏

I do have a 2000 service manual so if you get it isolated a little bit more let me know and I'll see if there is anything in it for the problem

You need spark and fuel to start.

Check the attachment in post #2 and see where to go with the fix
