kodiak 400 /450 what is carb drain plug for?

My Kodiak 400 has been doing
it for years and noe my friend's 450
started doing it. When shut down

and fule left on, the drain plug starts
leaking on the ground.
Dealer says he has to rebuild carb.
I question that as if the float sticks open
the performance would go to heII. Not
so on both.
I say the drain plug / screw must be leaking.

WHICH IS IT?

My 2000 Kodiak 400 would always leak if you did not shut the fuel off.

As a old motorcycle rider that is one of the things that I always did when I was done riding was to shut the fuel off.

Always shut the fuel off of a bike before storing it or bringing it into your garage.
The overflow tube is just that...if the float needle valve does not stop the flow of gasoline into the bowl the overflow tube attempts to keep the extra gas from running into your cylinders and possibly going past them and diluting your oil.
If the carb is overflowing slightly while your riding you might not even notice, but it will get worse over time and should be fixed.

If the tube that leaks is coming from the very bottom of the carb then it may be a drain line, and a new o ring seal may be all you need.
You can spray a silicone lube on the new oring and that will help make it easier to use the screw, but don't use oil on it.

My buddies 2001 400 kodiak does something similar. He always needs to shut off his fuel valve when parked because it leaks fuel out of carburetor over flow tube if I remember correctly. Other then that the bike runs fine. In his case I believe the needle and seat in the carburetor need replacing or maybe just a cleaning.
