I have a 2018 Colorado with the 6'-2" long bed (to the gate). Will the Kodiak fit width wise? I know I will have to leave the gate down but I am concerned that it won't fit between the fender wells.
The distance between the wells is 44" and the specs show the Kodiak at 46-1/2".
I haven't picked it up yet but I need to know if I have to bring my trailer when I go get it or not.
Take your trailer and don't worry. Then when you get home do some measuring. I am sure that you can hop the front wheels over the wheel wells but you might not have the height clearance once the tires are back on the bed.
I have a '17 Colorado with the 6' bed and I haul my Kodiak in it without issue. The front tires squeeze between the wheel wells. I backed it in once and the rear tires, being wider then the front pushed in the wheel wells a little bit.
I really like the idea of being able to haul it around without having to use the trailer. The fact that it is sitting in the bed and not putting a load on the tailgate is a bonus. My 2012 Arctic Cat sits the same way.
Yeah, you could build wheel pockets into the wood insert.
I'm looking forward to the mods my guy is doing to my trailer.
It will be nice to have both bikes load straight in instead of one loading sideways.
I'm also going to put in some removable pvc hoops on it so we can put a tarp
over it to get out of the weather or camp in. I'll post some pics when it's all done.
