Shifter issue

Maybe someone can point me to a fix or a thread. I let a fellow ride my Kodiak today and he wasn't aware of having to depress the brake peddle to make the shift to reverse. Anyway, he must have yanked on it pretty hard and now the gear that it is in doesn't match what the shifting pattern template the shifting lever rides in.

Any easy fixes?

I would imagine that he bent something or stripped a tooth spline rod somewhere.

In any case you are going to have to start pulling the plastic off just to look to see if you can tell where the problem is.

I agree with Jim, something is bent, and that linkage is not simple, but it is all visible when you open it up. Your comments suggest you can make it work, it just not like it should be, if that is the case, experimenting with the linkage should solve your issue. Bottom line is I am guessing that if you can straighten the linkage, you will solve the problem. I think I may disconnect that linkage interlock with my brakes, it is more trouble than it is worth. Not sure how to do that yet.

A member here did that a couple of years ago and while he doesn't have any pictures of how he did it he did describe how and you should be able to figure it out from that and a link that he provided.

Thanks for the feedback and info. I have decided that I don't have enough to gain, so I will leave it for now. I personally think I could ride without hurting something, but I have a son and son in law who use this also. I park on steep hills at times, and I would not want to jeopardize the holding position of Park. I like the idea of brakes on when shifting out of park.

About the only time that I would like not having to apply the foot brake would be when I am plowing snow. The snow stops me way before I even think about hitting the brake and then I have to back up. But after 12 or so years of plowing snow with a ATV I have the timing down for shifting into reverse.
